How to use the Oracle

To be fair, there is no right way to use this tool: depending on your situation, you will approach it very differently!
What I can do, though, is tell you how it works:

  • Spin the wheels for a random prompt out of half a billion possibilities
  • Hold the wheels that inspire you before respinning the rest
  • Hide the wheels that do not apply to your situation and/or that you find distracting
  • Drag each wheel to create your own luck (the only slot machine ever allowing it!)

Once you find your perfect prompt, use the textbox below the wheels to describe the mechanic you have in mind.
BE CAREFUL: this tool is not replacing you as a game designer! Most of these prompts are extremely open-ended on purpose and could be interpreted in an infinity of ways: be curious, inventive, and challenge yourself to think outside the industry’s usual boundaries.

When the final touches of your masterpiece are in place, copy the results and go share them with the world (and on our Discord, because I’d love to see the crazy ideas you come up with)!

In case the wheels are not self-explanatory enough, here is their purpose:

  • Action: What will the player do?
  • Element: What will the player interact with?
  • Goal: What will the player try to achieve?
  • Twist: What changes or complicates how they will achieve it?

And finally: should you ever have new ideas for prompts for any of these wheels, stop by the Discord with your suggestions (I’d love to reach 1 billion+ possibilities)!

Happy brainstorming!
